6.28.2002 || adding on another to the group
I tell ya, was getting worried there for a bit, but the DADS have rebounded with a one two punch. We are adding yet another new face [5 in June] to the list of DADS. Sticker He's been PCless for quite sometime, but is back in action and ready to fight along side us. Good to have you and welcome aboard!

6.24.2002 || new faces, new names, new update
Lots to talk about since my last update. So much has happened while I was on my vacation, yet so much of it is very old news already. The new 1.1.1.0 patch released from valve. Few minor updates, phase 2 of the VAC [valve anti-cheat] and the new Ricochet MOD.

We have four new faces for the month of June. MissAmericanPie, SpeedRacer, ShrimpBizKit, FIREMANN. Very active in the clan and they play quite a bit. We'll have some matches coming up soon. Been kinda hiding out for a few months while we found some new talent.

Crawdad [I can blame him] has entered us into a custom map tournament called the DML [DeathMatchLeague]. There are 12 clans in the tourney, 6 in each. We'll face some clans we know well and some we have never matched up against. Not to mention the maps we have never played. One would think that not all of the clans have seen every single map we will be playing, so we stand a very good chance of picking up a few wins. Info for week one's match ups and maps are now posted.

6.07.2002 || vacation time for slinger
I'm off to the Boundry Waters Canoe Area [BWCA] from Friday June 7 and return very late Saturday June 15.

BoundryWaters.com is a an okay site that gives you an idea where I'm headed. That photo on the home page is not something that is uncommon up there.

We start out on Snowbank Lake and make our way into Alworth Lake if there is a campsite open. There usually is because the lake is a dead end. Meaning there ain't no where to go once you are in it. So we can go a couple of days without seeing another person. We'll do lots of fishing up there of course. What will we catch? Northern Pike, Walleye and Lake Trout mainly.

This photo is of one of the other campers we met on the way. She had caught two large mouth bass and we asked her to pose with her fish. She was more than happy to do so.

Another BWCA site to look at.

I'll give y'all a full report when I return and will post some photos of this years trip when I get them back and scan them in.

See you when I return and good luck with the new patch if it comes out next week!

6.04.2002 || OGC 9.01 is now disabled
From CS-NAtion: Valve's latest anti-cheat update has effectively stopped OGC 9.01 in its tracks, one reader reports. OGC 9 is the latest OGC client hook and was released less than 48 hours ago. This latest ambush on cheats certainly shows that Valve has a new dedication toward defeating cheats. Perhaps more importantly, they now have the tools to do it.

The creators of the OGC Hook cheat, System and bunny711, have long been bragging about how easy it is to "circumvent" the cheating system. Their solution at this stage is to unhook the cheat if a new anti-cheat is downloaded, meaning that OGC Hook users are prevented from playing with cheats, but are not detected or exposed. Any secure server should, for the time being, be OGC-free.

An official announcement:

We've updated the security modules again. Your servers should update themselves automatically. If you find your servers are suddenly having problems (i.e. clients can't connect), try restarting the servers. That should fix the problem. We're working on a fix for this situation (where clients can't connect after a security module update).

6.03.2002 || ogc 8.5 disabled
Online Game Cheats Hook, or just OGC, version 8.5 has been disabled by the latest security module sent out by Valve.

Valve's anti-cheat does not detect the cheat (hence no banning or anything), but it does prevent the cheat from working altogether, which is intentional on part of the OGC developers. "currently we patch the custom dll loader that loads the downloaded secure module dll. we perform a checksum check." said System, saying how easy the anti-cheat's detection portion is easy to defeat. "if the module is new we unload ogc. you can still play hl."

A good question is whether Valve wants to know who cheats or if they simply want to stop the cheats from working (temporarily).

However OGC 9 has now been released. It works, for now.

6.01.2002 || 1.1.1.0 changes/due out june 12
CS-Nation have managed to get their hands on the changes list for the upcoming Half-Life 1.1.1.0 patch, which is now due, along with Counter-Strike 1.5, out on June 12th; not next Wednesday as planned. This release seems to address mainly issues which arose in 1.1.0.9, although it will contain the addition of Valve's Ricochet mod, and better implementation of Valve's anti-cheat technology! Hurrah!
Changes/Additions:
------------------
  • Ricochet included in this release.
  • Added logging of the anti-cheat system catching and kicking detected cheats.
  • Added logging of "kick" commands.
  • Added logging of "banid" commands.
  • Changed error message if clients try to download missing resources to be more helpful.
  • Added new debug message for mod makers if a packet couldn't be parsed correctly.
  • Linux: hlds_run now does auto-restart by default (to disable: define "-norestart" on the command line)
  • Linux: hlds_run uses "exec" when you define the "-norestart" option.
  • Linux: Added -pingboost command line parameter. Currently supports three different methods ('-pingboost 1', '-pingboost 2', and 'pingboost 3'). These may not work well (or at all) on some OS environments.
  • Linux: Added "-debug" flag to hlds_run to automatically run gdb and pull out useful info.

    New CVARS:
    ----------
  • Added "serverversion", can be set to '1108' to view/re-record old demos.
  • Added "sv_logbans" to turn the logging of player bans on and off. Default is 0 (off).

    Bug Fixes:
    ----------
  • Fixed incorrect WonID logging.
  • Fixed sv_allowdownload being required to be set to 1 for clients to connect to secure servers.
  • Fixed 'bad address type' fatal error on servers that attempt to run in secure mode but have no DNS resolution.
  • Fixed DropClient messages for Steam clients who were banned or have a duplicate Steam ID to properly show the SteamID of the client.
  • Fixed HLTV reporting wrong spectator numbers if connection to server was pending.
  • Fixed "multicast 1" not working if it was issued before HLTV connected to game server.
  • Fixed relay proxies reporting wrong spectator/slots numbers in multiplayer/LAN menu.
  • Fixed DMC powerup bug where the invisibility ring would make people glow red.
  • Fixed rcon bug in HLTV.
  • Fixed delay being reset to default value during changelevel.
  • Fixed a problem with propagating HLTV banners.
  • Fixed client freeze on exit.
  • Fixed framerate problem on some ATI video cards.
  • Fixed MaxPing filter not being saved correctly.
  • Fixed sky box bug.
  • Linux: Fixed server using 64 MB more memory than it needed to.
  • Linux: Fixed 'undefined symbol: __strtouq_internal' on some Linux systems.
  • Linux: Fixed segmentation fault on some Linux systems when attempting to run in secure mode

  • 5.31.2002 | more on the new 1.1.1.0 patch
Credit to Planet Half-Life for the following article:

CS-Nation spotted the following post made by Erik Johnson to the HLDS mailing lists. As of now, the patch releases are planned for next Wednesday, but that may change depending on the results of playtests / bug testing between now and then:
We generally let the lists know when we're totally nailed down and getting ready for the release. Right now we're planning the release for next Wednesday, but if we run into any significant problems in testing we'll have to push things back a week.

We'll know on Friday if things are going to go ahead as planned, and we'll let you know here. We didn't want to get all the alarm bells ringing until it's a definite thing.
It seems the new wave of patches will bring a new integrated demo playback feature. Check out the shots below, which were originally posted by German clan mTw. The shots, and the feature shown in them, have been confirmed legit:

However just reading over on CS Central, the view demo is NOT to be part of 1.1.1.0

The leaked screenshots from mymTw, of the new more advanced demo playback features, were not allowed to be published. The new viewdemo command will not even be part of 1.1.1.0 since it is still under development. My guess is it'll be in patch 1.1.1.1. Heh!

5.29.2002 | new 1.1.1.0 hl patch due out soon
Half-Life 1.1.1.0 and CS 1.5 Updates Coming Soon

New client and server updates for Half-Life and Counter-Strike are in the final phases of development and will be released in the coming weeks. Both updates (Half-Life 1.1.1.0 and C.S. 1.5) include the Ricochet Mod, phase two of the recently introduced anti-cheat technology, as well as various fixes and tweaks. The Ricochet Mod source, which includes animation blending and multi-serve technology, will be added to the Half-Life SDK. In addition, Counter-Strike 1.5 includes de_piranesi, a new mission created by Iikka Keranen.

Looking for new crosshairs like I am? Head on over to Crosshair Central. HLGuard 1.0 Beta 4 has been released. This is the 3rd beta release in as many days, the updates are too many to mention here (since beta 1).
